Interesting topic. I have been forcibly watching only one episode a week, on average, to stretch out the enjoyment of the DVDs. I was in my mid to late 20's when the show first aired and I must admit I stole many of David's lines for my own nefarious purposes. Anyhow, now rewatching the shows for the first time in decades, I think they are holding their own very well.
True there are numerous pop culture references throughout the series (and these are discussed in other threads). However most of them would still be recognized today. The music is heavily classic Motown and that appeals to all generations. The electronic gadgets, while involved in some episodes, are clearly in the background, unlike the car phone in Vegas or stuff in Mission Impossible. Yea, the computers are outdated, but so is my 3 year old Dell.
Clothes? Sure the styles have changed a good bit, more with Maddie than Dave. However I still love the way Maddie dresses. As with the hair, gotta agree there. Sometimes her "do" was WAY overboard.
Cars? How can you have a beef with the Bimmer? Heck, James Bond still drives around in a 63 Aston Martin!
I have shown some of the episodes to folks who were just kids when the show first aired. They absolutely rolled over in laughter. Quality is timeless, don't you think?

I agree with graycav completely, I think the age range on these boards indicates the fact that while some shows will appeal for a few years and then will be forgotten, the truly ground-breaking ones will appeal across the ages. Form is temporary, class is permanent!
