Hello there, I'm a new member on this forum. I'm French and I've been a fan of Bruce Willis and Moonlighting for 17 years sofar . I've just received the DVD season 1 and 2 and I was wondering why there isn't any English Subtitles in this edition? I think it would be very useful especially for the hearing impaired and also for any foreigners like me who love this show and appreciate the original version but who have sometimes difficulties to understand every jokes of David who speaks very fast So I'd be grateful if anyone could give me an answer , Thanks , Anne-France from Paris .

I can`t give you an answer (by the way, welcome to the board :-)) but I totally feel with you as I have the same problem. My english is quite good, but I don`t get all of their conversations. In April it`s coming out in Germany and I`m playing with the thought to buy it, but I`m not 100% sure as it`s totally the same as the american version (the only difference is the german dubbing and maybe the german and english subtitles). It`s also quite expensive so I`m really in doubt about it.

HI Anne and welcome Some others here have said that there are screen captions that you can access on your tv. Haven't tried it myself but maybe it will work for you.

There are definitely closed captions in Season One/Two. I used them all the time. Not that I'm hard of hearing, but sometimes I watched in a noisy environment. If you have an older TV or you lost your remote, you might not be able to see them, however. I did notice that my computer's default DVD player would show the closed captions.

Hello everybody, thanks a lot for answering me so quickly , but I don't understand "closed captions" either? It's true that sometimes for other films I can get subtitles thanks to my remote control but this is not the case here , so that's why I think that there are definitely not any subtitles on this edition, otherwise , it would have been mentioned on the DVD's technical information! Anyway, it's not big deal and actually it gives me a good excuse to watch the episodes again and again until I get David's jokes ;D Anne-France

Hi, I have just tried to find this subtitle button, found it, but doesn`t work on my DVDs either. A pity.

You aren't going to be able to turn on closed captions through your DVD's remote button. It's going to be somewhere on your TV's remote (if your TV supports closed captioning, which it should if it's a recent model). All Moonlighting DVDs (Season One/Two and Three) have closed captions. They look like this (sorry that the picture was funky, it must have been changing shots from Dave to Maddie when I took the screencap). Closed captions are always white text on a black (or dark grey) bar. Closed captions are often used in live broadcasts, like television news (where sometimes horrible errors can be made, since it's done live! ) Subtitles can be different colors (usually yellow or white) and have a black outline around the lettering, but not a black bar.

Hello Elvira, thanks for your explanation , I know what is "closed captions" now So, the problem must come from my TV since it is not a recent model The TV remote control does have the caption button but it only works with certain programme! Anyway, I intend to change it soon so hopefully the problem will be solved with a new TV set Cheerio, Anne-France

Just in my own personal experience, a computer generally will not pick up close captions. It will open subtitles (the other kind, as noted), but only if they are included on the DVD as an option. It does not make its own. To see the close captions, the easiest way is to run the DVD on a standard player hooked up to a television.

I don't know about Windows-based computers, but the Mac's default DVD player will pick up closed captions (which is how I got the screencaps!). And it's true about some TVs not having an option to show closed captions. Very annoying!

My computer is Windows-based and I found the closed captions today. It is under settings and then choose language. It is an option there.
