It is too bad this episode has such a stigma about it being the start of the Annie misstep. I think it is interesting in it shows Maddie's conflict over how she presents to the world how she feels about David vs how she really feels inside. And the title concept is done well. But boy, it sure makes David look like a jerk. This episode definately took a turn down the wrong alley.

In my opinion, this is by far the worst episode of Moonlighting ever........maybe the worst episode of all television.

By the end of this episode, I really think I hate David......and that is hard for me to admit.

Whenever I think about this episode, I find myself clenching my teeth!

I never watch this one . From start to finish it just makes me mad! This for me was the JTS moment.

This gets a rating of a 1 from me too. This is another disappointing episode for me. This is another LE for me. This was the beginning of the end. It could have been handled so differently but the writers chose not to do so. 2nd worst episode of tv history , LE is first. I always loved David and sided with him but he became a pod person in the end. Very sad how he treated Maddie , and yes i know she treated him badly too in the past . UGH!

Well, I finally decided to watch this episode for the first time in 18 years--it was not easy, but i gave it a shot. I remember when it first aired liking parts of it while i watched and then being sooo angry when it was over. I think it's the same now. I still don't know where this nasty David comes from. I can understand that he's miffed at maddie for declining his advances, but he is such a JERK in this epsiode. Ugh, and you could see maddie still cares. agnes pointed it out. she and maddie wanted to be nice and bring the boys chinese and what does the audience get? indigestion. it seems like david didn't want maddie to find out and then 2 seconds later he goes off. oh man, if maddie had only said i still love you in his apartment, things could have been different. i vote 1.

One thing I don't really understand is why, in Season 5, Maddie continues to describe David as vile, a real low life - and I mean BEFORE his involvement with A. I think she calls him that in PFL. At the end of Season 3, throughout Season 4 (except for his one night stand which Maddie never knew about) and the first episode of Season 5, we see David passionately in love with Maddie, wanting her to commit to the relationship, putting himself out there, being there for her, responsible, etc. The description of David as vile and deviant was more suited to events prior to the consummation of their relationship. Truth be told, Maddie was the vile one up to this point (IMHO). I know that the writers were trying to go back to the old ML formula of the earlier seasons, but it really doesn't work any longer. He had done nothing to warrant the moniker at this point in their relationship. He had demonstrated his love, commitment, patience and ability to forgive Maddie for all she had put him through.

What's Demi Moore doing there? I know, I know, everyone wanted to be on Moonlighting, and she had an in so why not. Anyway, I think that scene with her is really truly unnecessary and awkward. I also think David going on a date with Maddie and A to go dancing is so unlike him! I have to admit I really like the dance, when it's David and Maddie only, talking about old times.. "murder?! why didn't I think of that?!" LOL They're really sweet there... almost like it was earlier.

Maddie sleeps while Annie ‘moonlights’ with David. That’s not Moonlighting; that’s falling into a black hole in space! Ack!

That said, I actually liked this episode much better than the utterly ridiculous “Perfetc.” I liked the fact that there was real emotional tension again between David and Maddie starting with Maddie’s less than flattering warning about him to cousin Annie. In the previous episodes after AWWAV we have two pals, a lot of slapstick silliness, some great one-liners, and a couple of romantic moments that go nowhere. I enjoy all that to a certain extent but where is the substance? This episode should have found D/M is Paris solving some unexpected mystery and seriously rekindling their passion. Instead, we get Annie. Okay.

First, I enjoyed the Demi cameo only because it was nice to see the lovestruck look on David’s face again – no matter who he’s looking at. I really miss David-in-love. He’s enchanting!

I was tired of Maddie telling everyone, including David to his face, that he was this thoroughly immature degenerate. She was really overdoing it and if it annoyed David as much as it did me, it’s no wonder he had an attitude. However he seemed to be in a bad mood prior to arriving at her house. Did coming there to take Maddie and the cousin out on a 'date' bring back memories of frustration, missed opportunities and lost love? Anyway, I think Mean Serious David is hot! I’m ready for some seriousness in what has been a cotton candy season.

Please don’t throw any tomatoes but…I enjoyed David and Annie’s late night to early morning date. I like the way it was filmed with that great song telling the story. It was romantic. But the whole time I was thinking that a (for once, please) mellowed out Maddie should have been there with David instead. (That kiss he gave Annie was really meant for Maddie. That’s what I tell myself, folks.) It’s cute when they fuss at each other but I’d like them to openly enjoy each other’s company more.

No way is Maddie over David if she’s breaking into his home at night to in order to have a talk that could wait until morning at work! This fact alone earns the episode a few points. A 6 I give.

I gave this episode a 5. Two points for trying to recreate the tension between them - alas a bit late - and three points for Burt's presentation and the Alice (adultress) letter ;D

I agree with most lin and maddieaddisonjr said regarding David Addison, it's kind of unfair to David that Maddie laments so much about him after proving - to us - that she is the one which has problems with commitment (a classical Aquarious "feature").

The writers tried to recreate the David-Maddie-Sam atmosphere, only it was too late to save the show.

Once again I find myself swimming upstream with regards to this episode. I actually thought it was decent. (Please hold the tomatoes and rotten fruit.)

I thought the scene in the therapist's office was silly and wonder who the therapist was. It looked like a cameo from perhaps a family member, but I failed to check the credits on the DVD when I watched it last night. Anyhow, it seemed trite. I mean, therapy wasn't integral to Maddie or any storyline, at least not like Dr. Melfi on the Sopranos.

I started out a bit confused, since the Paris trip was completely omitted. I assume it never happened. Anyway, it is clear that Maddie had been giving dear old Dave his walking papers for the better part of a year. What's a guy to do? Carry a torch for blondie for the rest of his life?

Anyhow, I can see where he'd find Annie attractive. She's a babe. Heck, she is STILL a babe. The poor woman never ages. So she has the looks thing going. Second, she is obviously fun to be with. From the scoping out of the dude in the restaurant to the moving of Maddie's perfectly aligned magazines, it was apparent she liked to stir the pot.

Of course, all is not perfect on Dave's side either. Annie is Maddie's cousin for goodness sakes, and he didn't seem to care what effect that would have on her. Later, when he found out Annie was already spoken for....well that didn't seem to bother him either, which kind of perplexed me as Dave seemed rather traditional in those affairs previously.

The gender swap of the last scene in which Maddie breaks in and falls asleep in David's bed instead of the other way around I thought was interesting. OK, Maddie shows up but for what? To finally confront David in a manner similar to what Dave did earlier? To declare herself a player in the Addison Sweepstakes? Not really. She just wanted him to lay off her married cousin. David was beyond hearing more Maddie preaching long before this scene.

You know, I'm going to watch this episode again tonight and probably edit this post. I have many conflicting opinions that I need to resolve before I continue.

MODIFIED POST AFTER SECOND VIEWING LAST NIGHT:

Still liked it, without reservation.

On second view, I agree that David in the office where he put his fingers in his ears was a bit childish. Also, when Maddie and Agnes came to the stakeout, recall that he tried to keep his fling with Annie a secret, although Maddie broke down the door. After that, what was there to do but come clean, and at least he was consistent throughout the rest of the show.

The only other thing that popped up was that little black dress Annie borrowed from Maddie. Considering the height difference (Virginia Madsen is 5'5" and Cybill between 3-5 inches taller), that thing fit her perfectly, don't you think? Ah, the magic of Hollywood.

I think the romance could have STILL been saved after this episode. Even though many, many injuries have been inflicted on both sides, there was still something there, buried way under the surface.

I like the way Maddie's feelings are showed - what she really feels, and what she shows to the world.
But David was acting like real jerk. I hate him because of that. I know Maddie used to refuse his love in 4th season, but we all know her feelings. And she wasn't hurting David's feelings in THAT jerky way... I just hate David. And Annie. She knew, she SHOULD knew about Maddie's feelings, but she did what she did...

It's ok David found another woman, I mean Maddie still loves him but she doesn't want to show it, and it's ok David have another women (we can't expect him waiting for Maddie's decision for soo long), but I hate the way he was acting to Maddie.

Well, I’m revisiting WGC and I must say that so far I’m not feeling that 6 I gave it several months ago. I’ve changed my mind about a few things after an afternoon of ML episode ‘marathon-ing.’

David does not look lovestruck in the Demi Moore cameo but acts interested like a man on the make with no one else on his mind - like he doesn't love Maddie anymore. What?

Maddie’s scene with the therapist…. You’re right, it looks like one of the staff’s relatives just sitting there. The camera man’s grandmother? Not convincing. And after all they’ve been through together and as much reflection as she's surely done by now, does Maddie really need to see a therapist because of David? I’m disappointed that in each character's first scene it’s established that they’re getting over one another. How can these two fall out of love when their relationship is the basis of the show?

Season 5 is lackluster up to this point because the actual cases are trying to take first place. Who cares about them?? I seem to be finding JTS moments all over the place but – until I change my mind again – the real actual jump was having Maddie pregnant before intending to end the series. If writing the show with a baby would have been difficult, writing a baby’s death and the end of the parents desire to be together was fatal. How can anyone listen to the words of the theme song and think writing the WGC script was okay? Doesn’t it sound like Al Jarreau is singing about other people and not ‘our’ people?

Okay, I’ve had the disc on pause right at the point where the cousins are getting ready to go out with David. (Why would Maddie want to have David along for the ride anyway after all the negative things she told Annie about him? If she was so concerned about David's behavior, why have him anywhere near Annie?) I’ll add that I like the fact that Maddie was laughing, drinking and having a good time during lunch. How often does she genuinely laugh? Also, I do not like her hair this season and she’s not as glamorous as before if the Demi-character and Annie outshine her which they do.

Finished. Well, this was a strange, rather unpleasant episode. It bothered me that David’s dance with Annie was more romantic than with Madolyn and I can’t remember seeing David and Maddie spending as much relaxed time together as he did with Annie after Maddie went to bed. I mean, who's the female lead here? That whole scene of walking around LA, having fun, and parking and looking down on the city lights and talking sans banter had the wrong woman in it. Yes, I know D/M are known for their banter and that’s what they do. But they should have had more than a rare moment when there was no confusion or emotional shields or barbed comments. I think we should have seen that they cared enough for each other not to always be either icy cold or red hot – that they could meet in the middle because they wanted to. That late night date definitely should have been their scene. I'll always regret that.

I have a problem with David being selfish and mean enough to start something with Maddie’s own cousin without any guilt whatsoever. He tells her it’s none of her business. Then he finds out Annie’s married and tells her it doesn’t matter. What's that? This isn’t the real David, nor is it a likeable David and personally I think his behavior is worse here than Maddie's in season 4. But I think his nastiness towards her has to do with him still being upset that she’s rejecting him – again. So subconsciously he hits below the belt with Annie and pretends it has nothing to do with her. And the scene at the end when David tells her to get out and then goes chasing after the cousin is like the last nail in the coffin. Then the romantic theme music comes on saying ‘something is sweeter because we met along the way.’ Well, there’s nothing sweet between our ‘moonlighting strangers’ now and it all left a sour taste in my mouth. Seeing this again makes me wish that ‘A Womb’ had actually been the last episode of season 4 but instead of a miscarriage Maddie gives birth to David Jr., there’s a declaration of love and a marriage proposal that’s accepted and then we can run the end credits with a well done montage.

The only good thing in this sad chapter is the Bert-isms. I really enjoyed him in this one. He was so funny! ;D

EDITED to add: Inspite of all of the above, I agree with graycav that the romance could have been saved after this episode if the situation had been handled right. But as we know, it wasn't.
