I was watching "When Girls Collide" yesterday (looking for a quote for the quote game, I never think to myself, "Hey, an Annie episode sounds fun, let's pop in that DVD!" )
Anyway, towards the beginning of the episode, I stumbled along a really sweet moment between David and Maddie. D&M were dancing, and Annie was alone at the table. The dialogue was really tender between them. Maddie's speech about after all they've been through, they're haven't killed each other yet, and after David makes his joke about why he hasn't thought of murder yet, and how he'd be popular in prison, ;D David says something to the effect of that there is no one he would rather be with than Maddie right there, right then. And then stupid Bert interrupts
Wish the writers would have gone down that path rather than the other fork in the road. There still could have been a love-triangle between the three, but it could have been more like the Sam-Maddie-David triangle. The writers in season 5 had no problems completely recycling story lines, I wouldn't have minded a more conflicted David like how Maddie was conflicted about Sam and Dave. Annie could have been fun and someone he didn't have history with, and he could have definitely been attracted to her, but something could have been pulling David back to Maddie. And Maddie, for a change, could have done some more active pursuing. The way the Annie arc unfolded was just mean and cruel to the viewers. And to the Maddie character. While she did plenty to David that necessitated him to want to "get back" at her, the way this storyline unfolded went over the line.
So, if you want to see an actual, sweet moment late in season 5 between our heroes, pop in "When Girls Collide" without fear. But be sure to turn it off as soon as you see Bert pop out of the folliage. Then write your own ending
