Sorry, we have been a little disorganized on this one. Rose is on vacation, and I've had some family issues.
I'm glad you all decided we should all do a couple of questions. Here are mine:
1. This is the last episode of season 1. How would you categorize Maddie and David's relationship at this point? Has there been a logical progression through the first season?
2. Do you see any changes in Maddie and/or David from the beginning to the end of this episode?
3. Trivia: what do we see for the first and the last time (in the series) in this episode?
and as usual:
4. What is your favorite scene? What about your favorite quotable quote?

Thanks for the questions, diane! Here are mine:
1. Maddie says twice in this ep "People are basically good." Do you think this philosophy is true to her personality generally? Does it hold up in subsequent seasons?
2. How do you think David's position at Blue Moon has changed in the course of this first season?

Well, it's interesting. After the high point of "Next Murder You Hear," which I think is the most intense, relationship-wise, of the first season, they seemed to backtrack a little with "Next Stop Murder" and this episode. These two eps I think remind me more of a buddy comedy than a romantic one. I think David started to realize his feelings for Maddie in "Next Murder," but as we've discussed before, at this point, I don't think Maddie has any idea how far she's going to fall for David. I do think she's finding him more amusing than maddening in this ep...not sure what that means! And I definitely get a sense that Maddie has come to rely on David, and she is allowing him more input and autonomy as far as Blue Moon goes--either that, or he sneaked the company credit card to buy the piano/pool table/satellite dish! ;D

OK, this is a pretty weak guess, but...the piano??? Or David with business-related reading material?

4. What is your favorite scene?
Oh the final food fight, of course.
What about your favorite quotable quote?
David to Maddie in front of the dead Hirsch “Rip off all your clothes and see if he reacts..You’re right, bad idea, that would kill ME!”
I must agree that Dave took the words right out of my mouth.

I'm all out of order here....sorry.
1. Maddie says twice in this ep "People are basically good." Do you think this philosophy is true to her personality generally? Does it hold up in subsequent seasons?
Well, she sure LOOKS good.
I’m not sure Maddie truly believed in this. In early episodes it appears she gave folks the benefit of the doubt, but later on, less so. I figure someone with that attitude would have loads of friends and as we learn, Maddie has very very few.

I'm gonna do Jen's questions first:
1. Maddie says twice in this ep "People are basically good." Do you think this philosophy is true to her personality generally? Does it hold up in subsequent seasons?
I absolutely think this idea figures prominently in Maddie's philosophies in how she runs her daily life. There are times in subsequent episodes, when she seems upset or disappointed by some of the cases and/or clients they deal with, and I think that's because their actions seem to disprove this philosophy. I think for the most part, she's led a charmed life, and it's pretty easy for her to keep hold of this thought. And remember, she also has given us her thoughts on being good...not sleeping around or staying up late....which kind of feeds into the same idea.
2. How do you think David's position at Blue Moon has changed in the course of this first season?
I think Maddie trusts David a little more as we get to the end of this season. He is still trying to pull his Mr. Charming act....particularly when he tries to get her to work for EC-AC, but I also think he drops the mask for a moment when he confides that some people out there don't think he is a very good detective!
At this point, I see them building a good working relationship, and maybe wondering about a little more.

Interesting question. Since most if not all of Season 1’s episodes were in the can before the first one aired, I’m not sure if they had enough outside feedback (interference??) from others to help shape their relationship. Add to that every episode, including the pilot, were written by different people and you may not have had a linear progression.
That being said, I LOVE season one. It was all so fresh, so novel. I smile from ear to ear every time I watch one.

My quotable quotes are in my signature....
I listed both questions 'cause my favorite scene is also the scene I see as showing a major change in Maddie.
I love the car chase......our very first ML car chase. And I love the way maddie shows her true grit. She is absolutely terrified, and you've gotta know she has no experience with fast driving, or running from danger. But she pulls it together, with much goading from David, and "steps on the pedal, Gretel" with determination. I love taking a character, putting them in a situation beyond their comfort zone, and having them rise to the occasion beautifully!

I'm just trying to figure out who worked for whom.
The fake CIA guy wound up being KGB. That means the English guy must have been working for the west, perhaps MI6. The CIA does not operate inside the US...that stuff falls on the FBI.
So the Americans got the British to kill a Russian before he passed on info about whacking a Chinese.
World politics, Moonlighting style.

Maybe one of our connected beauties has access to the FILMING schedule, that we could then compare and contrast against the AIRING sequence. This may explain the juxtaposition of the relationship cues. (See, I DID go to college...all five years of it!) I'm having all kinds of Internet Service problems here folks....I'm going to have to drop off and rejoin at a later time. Keep up the banter for me!
