BTW Diane - your extra sections from the scripts really add to this thread - they're amazing! I wish they had kept the extra elevator scene and I can see why they didn't keep 'the smell' scene lol :-)

I have to admit that I have no idea why she wanted that pact! Well... the answer is: because she is Maddie Hayes She is a thinker, she likes to analyze things, to scrutinize... And sometimes her mind takes control over her heart. It was her heart she listened to during the love-making with David, but now she opens her eyes and she ...just start thinking, analyzing the things again.

I just wish she kept her eyes closed more often ;D

In this episode, I can never defend the way Maddie acts the morning after. I think her coldness towards David and her attempts to emotionally manipulate him into pacts are pretty distasteful.
But, I just re-watched the scene where David comes to work, singing. Thanks to someone here on this board, I now know what song he was singing at DiPesto's desk. I never recognized it before because it was recorded a bit before my time.
After hearing "Double Shot (of my Baby's love)", I understand much better why Maddie was so upset and uptight.
First of all, pretty racy lyrics for a mid-60's song!
I now see both sides of the issue: yes, David always comes in singing. But, those lyrics are practically a play-by-play description of everything that took place the night before. It was like a singing telegram. And, while I'm sure David's conscious intention was not to embarass Maddie (well, it's never his intention to embarass her, is it?), I can easily see how I would have gone completely tense in the shoulders if I'd been Maddie and heard that little ditty being sung through the door. From her perspective, what he did was only one small step away from writing it across the sky or taking an ad out in the paper.
She's the boss. But, she knows that the employees are and always have been on David's side, not hers. David also has a reputation for being a player. Personally, I always thought that was just so much talk and bluster on his part. After all, if he is really with all these women all the time, how does he always have hours and hours of free time to spend with Maddie?
But, whether David's playboy reputation is fact or fiction, everyone around him believes it. Maddie doesn't want her personal business in the street and she doesn't want to be seen as just another of his sexual conquests.
So, I'm still not exactly on Maddie's side. I think there were more sensitive ways to voice her concerns. David was in the clouds and she didn't have to shoot the poor guy down completely. But, I get where she's coming from a bit more, now, especially during this scene.

My favorite scene - and IMHO one of the best scenes ever - is the first car conversation. Please, folks, I need somebody to tell me that there's nothing wrong with me just because I feel the maddening urge to smoke an entire packet of cigarettes after having watched this scene. I mean, honestly, listening to David's words, listening to his voice and tone when he speaks them, watching his face expression gives me - in a region far south of the brain - really a sensation of... uhm... OK, OK, this is a family board. Don't let me get carried away. I'm callllllllllmmmm!!!! *steam* This quote was made by another Sandra years ago, but I can soooo relate to this. This episode... either you love it or you hate it, I guess. Of course, this episode marked the beginning of the demise of David and Maddie and that fact makes me hate it somewhat. However, as the other Sandra stated: that scene in the car! Oh my... I wouldn't have missed it for the world! David's voice alone is enough to make a lady in desperate need of a cold shower And yes, for that scene to take place, we needed an ambivalent Maddie. I think it's one of the sexiest scenes I ever saw on Moonlighting (next to IACM, of course). If only they had led David and Maddie down a different path after this... then this episode would have a different aftertaste.
