Ok.......my disclaimer....I HATE THIS SCENE....and I am so glad the censors got hold of it. But in the interest of true disclosure, I present it for your review ;-) It occurs as D&M are entering the police station after the phone call in David's apartment: FADE IN: ON A SET OF DOUBLE DOORS ....with frosted glass as they're PUSHED OPEN from the other side and DAVID strides through....followed by MADDIE..... MADDIE (privately) : Gosh, I wish we'd had time to take a shower. DAVID: Huh? MADDIE (hushed) : It's embarrassing. Can't you smell that smell? DAVID: "That smell"? What smell? MADDIE You know what smell. That smell you smell after...you do what we just did. DAVID: Oh...that smell? I've never smelled that smell. Or maybe it's just that I smell that smell all the time. MADDIE (disgusted): I'm sure that's it...... this is kinda funny but yeah kinda too raunchy, but glad to read all this stuff here. Thanks Diane! You really are the best for taking all this time to give us all a little extra thrill with our fave show! I wish i could do something for you!

From the script......one great description of David in his office as Maddie enters to discuss the case: ...she crosses over to David's door....where she hesitates for the briefest moment..then KNOCKS....and getting no answer she OPENS IT anyway...and PEEKS into.... DAVID'S OFFICE ..where she sees DAVID behind his desk...leaning back in his chair...legs up on the desk....his jacket off....tie loose....sleeves rolled up.... in a relaxed position but clearly not a relaxed person....staring straight at the door.... ~scene continues as airedAnd later, when Maddie is reciting her litany of what she found about Robert: DAVID ....watching her run down the data.... his expression one of controlled angerYes David is really intently watching her while she reads from her list for sure. You can tell his mind is going a mile a minute trying to figure this woman out and yes hes mad too!

Ok...one more.......
A little added dialogue between Margaret and D&M in the police station:
MADDIE: Why did you do it, Miss Kendall? Why would you confess to a murder you didn't commit? (and then) To protect Robert?
ON MARGARET
...as she looks away....nods....then....this isn't easy....
MARGARET: I was coming home from the stables....I saw him driving away from the house....he didn't notice me....he looked too upset to notice anyone.....I thought it was odd, but....I just parked the car...went into the house to wash up.....(and then)...and that's when I heard the explosion. (and then; the hardest part) That's when I knew....
ON MADDIE
....still at a loss......then gently......
MADDIE: I'm sorry, Miss Kendall, but...that doesn't explain why you confessed to a murder he committed.
ON MARGARET
...as she looks up at MADDIE....then simply....
MARGARET (a shrug): I love him, Miss Hayes.
....and....
DAVID AND MADDIE
...just stare back at her....nothing else to say...and...
ANOTHER ANGLE
...to include all three....then....
MARGARET (tentative; almost afraid to say it) : There's....still something I need to know.....(and then) I need to know if it was all a lie.....or if he even felt anything for me....(and then) I thought I knew the answer, but....now he won't see me...won't talk to me....
ON MARGARET
...as she makes her plea.....
MARGARET: ....I mean.....it's why I came to you in the first place, right? To prove Robert loves me? Only now, it's not for my father...it's for me....
..and she just looks at them......

The next script thingie is a totally missing scene: INT THE ELEVATOR ...as a demurely dressed Maddie RISES alone in the car....and AFTER A MOMENT the DOORS DING OPEN...and STEELING HERSELF...MADDIE STEPS out into... INT THE CORRIDOR ...and heads down it...quickly making her way towards the BLUE MOON OFFICE...until we HEAR another elevator DING....another set of doors open...and then.... DAVID'S VOICE (O.C.) : Guess I'm just destined to keep looking at your back. TIGHTER ON MADDIE ...just what she didn't want to hear...and she slows to a stop as.... ANOTHER ANGLE ....David joins her..... DAVID (as he sidles up) : This is more like it. Almost as if we know each other. MADDIE (managing a smile) : Hi David. How are you this morning? ...and DAVID notes the aloofness in her voice.... DAVID: Me?....Other than spilling coffee on myself when the cab peeled away from the drive-up window.....peachy. MADDIE: Good. (and then) Well..... ...and she looks toward.... THE OFFICE DOOR ....and..... THE TWO OF THEM ...as Maddie STOPS.....and David STOPS....and the two of them just stand there....DAVID seeing what she's looking at.....and also noting that she's strangely nailed to the floor...... DAVID (stamping the floor once with his foot) : Dog-gone...electric door opener is on the fritz again. MADDIE: You go ahead. DAVID: You're not coming? MADDIE: I'm coming.....I'm coming. I'd just like you to walk in ahead of me. DAVID: You would? MADDIE: Yes....I would. DAVID: Don't you think you're being a little silly? MADDIE: A little silly? DAVID: Acing a little strange? MADDIE: Strange? DAVID: Strange, Maddie. You're acting strange. For you, this is the equivalent of climbing a clock tower with a shotgun in your hand. MADDIE: David, I don't know what you're talking about. DAVID: C'mon Maddie, we've done this a thousand times. MADDIE: Done what? DAVID: Walked into work. Together. Simultaneously even. Without anyone in there thinking of knowing or caring what you or I did last night. Now's no difference. ON MADDIE ...but clearly, it is different.....as she stares straight ahead....not at David....not at the door.....just straight ahead.... ON DAVID ...the meaning of this look is not lost on him..... DAVID (giving in) : Ey...just remembered....Left my scarlet "D" in the cab. maybe if I run downstairs, I can still catch him. (backing away) See you in a bit. ON MADDIE ...not feeling too good about this...but watching with some relief as DAVID moves back toward the elevator....and around the bend....and AFTER A MOMENT she moves....through the BLUE MOON DOOR... ANother good scene! Would have liked to have seen this one on tv!

Ok...that is the last of the script changes....the rest of the episode goes on pretty much as aired.
I am off now to rest my weary fingers......BUT...before I do.....
I've got one question that I am surprised has not come up......
What is your take on the "safety" conversation, especially since it will so soon be proven that Maddie wasn't "safe" at all?

I don't want to pile on witness, but it is just so darned fun! I agree with Diane here. David is what pops into my head every time I hear the phrase "The Pursuit of Happiness". He knows that happiness is a journey, it isn't really an end state. It is an active verb, not a passive condition. Sometimes it works for him, sometimes it has consequences. In this case, boinking the Blue Moon girl SURELY qualifies as a happy event...it sure as heck would be for me...and deserves the accolades he gives it. I loved the office scene. Yep, sorry witness.... David's happiness depends on Maddie's happiness. And that, folks, is what love really is, isn't it? The need, desire, the craving to make the one you love happy? "How To Be Happy" is a recurring theme for the entire show and for David to NOT talk about happiness on his part and most importantly, to him, Maddie's happiness, would just be so wrong! it's so true about the Happiness stuff! David has been giving his all to make Maddie happy from the first day they met. I think thats all he has ever done the whole time they know each, if Maddies happy im happy, Like He will live in an apt with no furnature but knowing Maddie got to keep her house is all David wanted. He always gives in to her to make her happy yet he knows shes not fully happy so thats what he keeps on trying to do especiailly this episode and next. He is so over the top happy and hoped Maddie would fin ally be that way to here. ALso take note that he says it to her while they are dancing together during WGC right? He's asks again Are you happy? UGH!

1. In relation to the Kendall case, what do you believe are the “facts” that Maddie is struggling with in regards to her new relationship with David?Maddie is thinking of how the barkeep fits into the standard mold of who should marry a girl of such wealth. As such it translates into a battle between hearts and mind. With David: How will it fit in with her long held beliefs of who she thought she "should" marry? What will be the impact on the business? How will her parents react? What about her friends and acquaintences...will they ridicule Maddie behind her back for marrying beneath her "station"? Will David act inappropriately at some critical juncture that would open her ability to make decisions to question? 2. What are the “facts” that David considers most important in his new relationship with Maddie? That they know each other, love each other and have stupendous sack time. All else is secondary. ROFLMAO @ stupendous sack time! Gray you kill me!

This is an area in which I really can't be on the same page with you, witness. I think the happiness conversations are very intentional, and as you will see, there are a few more instances in the original script. As a student of this show for so many years, my conclusion is that David's driving force is happiness. He lives his life in search of happiness, and it motivates him. He talk about it a lot. His attitude, his singing and dancing, his jokes, his fun.....all designed to assist in his ongoing quest for happiness. And, although it enhances his life also, I have to say it is quite selfless. He is most concerned about Maddie's happiness, and teaching her to find her way towards it. (In fact, many of the issues of season 4 come from David being too self sacrificing and restrained regarding the issues of Maddie finding her own way to happiness.) Since we have known David, the morning after the night before is the very pinnacle of his own happiness, and I think it is very appropriate that he wants Maddie to be happy and to be able to express it. And it hurts him deeply that she can't. For me, after him spending two and a half years to get to this point, I would have thought it quite odd if happiness were not a major part of the conversation!!! (Whoa.....I used the word "happiness" way too many times myself....) I don't want to pile on witness, but it is just so darned fun! I agree with Diane here. David is what pops into my head every time I hear the phrase "The Pursuit of Happiness". He knows that happiness is a journey, it isn't really an end state. In this case, boinking the Blue Moon girl SURELY qualifies as a happy event...it sure as heck would be for me...and deserves the accolades he gives it. I loved the office scene. Sheesh guys...I feel about as piled upon as a fumbled football! I agree with all of you regarding the pertinence of their discussion on the subject of happiness. My sidebar comment was merely an opinion that they overused the word ever so slightly and was not meant to minimize its significance.

Great googly moogly! diane, thanks for all the time and effort you put into this...these deletions and changes are very illuminating! MADDIE (disgusted): I'm sure that's it...... Yuck-o-rama...definitely crosses the line from suggestively amusing to just plain gross...not to mention, I think it's totally out of character for Maddie to be discussing bodily odors of any kind in a public place!

Diane: Mundo thanks for all those scenes. I love reading the changes and the blocking instructions. Too bad Cindy couldn't partake as I know this was her favorite episode of all time. And to honor your hard work....I offer the tidbit to the left of this panel.
As for the "smell" scene, I agree with everyone is saying that it is a good thing that didn't make air.
Now speaking for me, if Maddie would have wanted to shower, I wouldn't have stopped her, in fact, I would have brought up ecological reasons for conserving precious water resources, and offered to share.....

First of all, gray...great avatar #2! Secondly, happy Veteran's Day...thanks to you and all who are or have been in uniform for your service! Now, onto diane's question: I've got one question that I am surprised has not come up...... What is your take on the "safety" conversation, especially since it will so soon be proven that Maddie wasn't "safe" at all? This is an interesting one...seems to me they must've put it in there knowing they were going to write the pregnancy in somehow. (And David's line--"The last few days have been quite a clambake, and I really didn't come dressed for the party"--has got to be the best euphemism I've ever heard! ;D) Also, though, it's another play on the relative safety--or not--of this relationship. Being with David doesn't feel "safe" emotionally for Maddie, because he inspires feelings in her that she doesn't really understand and can't control. Sam, on the other hand, did feel "safe"--a known quantity, etc. etc. The irony here is that, in reality, Maddie would have been safer with David, because he always puts her happiness first; he truly wants to take care of her (and her heart), in a way that I don't think Sam could have. As for Maddie insisting it was absolutely "safe" when events will prove otherwise...I think, in the upheaval of the last 4 or 5 days, it wouldn't be surprising if she had forgotten to take a certain little pill. I definitely don't think she's deliberately misleading David here--I can't imagine Maddie playing roulette like that!
