The next script thingie is a totally missing scene:
INT THE ELEVATOR
...as a demurely dressed Maddie RISES alone in the car....and AFTER A MOMENT the DOORS DING OPEN...and STEELING HERSELF...MADDIE STEPS out into...
INT THE CORRIDOR
...and heads down it...quickly making her way towards the BLUE MOON OFFICE...until we HEAR another elevator DING....another set of doors open...and then....
DAVID'S VOICE (O.C.) : Guess I'm just destined to keep looking at your back.
TIGHTER ON MADDIE
...just what she didn't want to hear...and she slows to a stop as....
ANOTHER ANGLE
....David joins her.....
DAVID (as he sidles up) : This is more like it. Almost as if we know each other.
MADDIE (managing a smile) : Hi David. How are you this morning?
...and DAVID notes the aloofness in her voice....
DAVID: Me?....Other than spilling coffee on myself when the cab peeled away from the drive-up window.....peachy.
MADDIE: Good. (and then) Well.....
...and she looks toward....
THE OFFICE DOOR
....and.....
THE TWO OF THEM
...as Maddie STOPS.....and David STOPS....and the two of them just stand there....DAVID seeing what she's looking at.....and also noting that she's strangely nailed to the floor......
DAVID (stamping the floor once with his foot) : Dog-gone...electric door opener is on the fritz again.
MADDIE: You go ahead.
DAVID: You're not coming?
MADDIE: I'm coming.....I'm coming. I'd just like you to walk in ahead of me.
DAVID: You would?
MADDIE: Yes....I would.
DAVID: Don't you think you're being a little silly?
MADDIE: A little silly?
DAVID: Acing a little strange?
MADDIE: Strange?
DAVID: Strange, Maddie. You're acting strange. For you, this is the equivalent of climbing a clock tower with a shotgun in your hand.
MADDIE: David, I don't know what you're talking about.
DAVID: C'mon Maddie, we've done this a thousand times.
MADDIE: Done what?
DAVID: Walked into work. Together. Simultaneously even. Without anyone in there thinking of knowing or caring what you or I did last night. Now's no difference.
ON MADDIE
...but clearly, it is different.....as she stares straight ahead....not at David....not at the door.....just straight ahead....
ON DAVID
...the meaning of this look is not lost on him.....
DAVID (giving in) : Ey...just remembered....Left my scarlet "D" in the cab. maybe if I run downstairs, I can still catch him. (backing away) See you in a bit.
ON MADDIE
...not feeling too good about this...but watching with some relief as DAVID moves back toward the elevator....and around the bend....and AFTER A MOMENT she moves....through the BLUE MOON DOOR...

Some minor changes in the scene with Agnes:
...as MADDIE enters and heads for her office in her no nonsense mode....passing Dipesto, who LOOKS UP from her magazine...
MADDIE (all business): Morning, Miss Dipesto.
DIPESTO: Morning, Miss Hayes. (and then, brightly) Miss Hayes?
....Maddie STOPS....but the look on her face says all she wants out of life is to be in her office with the doors closed....
MADDIE (turning around) : Yes?
DIPESTO (studying Maddie; cocking her head in thought) : Hmmmmm
MADDIE (impatient) : What is it, Miss Dipesto?
DIPESTO (still studying her): I don't know....I can;t figure it out.... (and then)...something's different.
MADDIE (forced nonchalance): Different?
DIPESTO: I don't know what it is...but you look great today...I mean, you always look great, but today you look extra great......
MADDIE (firm): No, I don't.
DIPESTO: You don't?
MADDIE: I look the same today as I do every other day. I AM the same today as I am every other day. There is nothing whatsoever special or unusual about this day.
DIPESTO: You do?..... You are?..... There isn't?
MADDIE: I do, I am, there isn't. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be in my office.
DIPESTO (still puzzled) : Yes, Miss Hayes....
....Maddie TURNS and heads for her office....all the office workers have WATCHED this display, puzzled....
DIPESTO (calling to Maddie) : ....Sorry about the....
Maddie's door SLAMS behind her....
DIPESTO (CONT'D) : compliment....

This is an area in which I really can't be on the same page with you, witness. I think the happiness conversations are very intentional, and as you will see, there are a few more instances in the original script. As a student of this show for so many years, my conclusion is that David's driving force is happiness. He lives his life in search of happiness, and it motivates him. He talk about it a lot. His attitude, his singing and dancing, his jokes, his fun.....all designed to assist in his ongoing quest for happiness. And, although it enhances his life also, I have to say it is quite selfless. He is most concerned about Maddie's happiness, and teaching her to find her way towards it. (In fact, many of the issues of season 4 come from David being too self sacrificing and restrained regarding the issues of Maddie finding her own way to happiness.) Since we have known David, the morning after the night before is the very pinnacle of his own happiness, and I think it is very appropriate that he wants Maddie to be happy and to be able to express it. And it hurts him deeply that she can't. For me, after him spending two and a half years to get to this point, I would have thought it quite odd if happiness were not a major part of the conversation!!! (Whoa.....I used the word "happiness" way too many times myself....) I don't want to pile on witness, but it is just so darned fun! I agree with Diane here. David is what pops into my head every time I hear the phrase "The Pursuit of Happiness". He knows that happiness is a journey, it isn't really an end state. It is an active verb, not a passive condition. Sometimes it works for him, sometimes it has consequences. In this case, boinking the Blue Moon girl SURELY qualifies as a happy event...it sure as heck would be for me...and deserves the accolades he gives it. I loved the office scene. Yep, sorry witness.... David's happiness depends on Maddie's happiness. And that, folks, is what love really is, isn't it? The need, desire, the craving to make the one you love happy? "How To Be Happy" is a recurring theme for the entire show and for David to NOT talk about happiness on his part and most importantly, to him, Maddie's happiness, would just be so wrong!

Here's an omission from the script that I am glad they made, but it IS funny. I also wanted you all to see the stage directions for this scene.
It comes after Maddie introduces and David shoots down the PACT:
MADDIE: Oh...and that is all that matters, isn't it? What you want? (and then) Of course.
ON DAVID
..stung by the truth in those words....he has nothing to say...
ON MADDIE
...sensing that she's gotten through to him in some small way....
MADDIE (after A MOMENT; softer) : Do you remember what you said last night?
ANOTHER ANGLE -- TO INCLUDE BOTH OF THEM
...as David looks her straight in the eyes....
DAVID: You mean after..."of course I can do it again"? (and then; as honest as he's ever been) I know what I said. I meant it.
MADDIE (still quiet) : If you really meant it...you'll make this pact.
...and he LOOKS at her...caught and he KNOWS it and he hates it...the most piercing SILENCE in the history of television is SUDDENLY SHATTERED by a sharp KNOCK on the door....

From the script......one great description of David in his office as Maddie enters to discuss the case:
...she crosses over to David's door....where she hesitates for the briefest moment..then KNOCKS....and getting no answer she OPENS IT anyway...and PEEKS into....
DAVID'S OFFICE
..where she sees DAVID behind his desk...leaning back in his chair...legs up on the desk....his jacket off....tie loose....sleeves rolled up....in a relaxed position but clearly not a relaxed person....staring straight at the door....
~scene continues as aired
And later, when Maddie is reciting her litany of what she found about Robert:
DAVID
....watching her run down the data....his expression one of controlled anger

Her'es the full scene of Maddie with Mr. Kendall. As you can see some of it aired, but much was cut. Thought you'd like to see the whole thing.....casts an interesting light on Maddie's state of mind.....
This starts after Mr. Kendall offers the bribe:
MADDIE: You'll have to leave, Mr. Kendall.
KENDALL : Hear me out, Miss Hayes. (walks back to the desk) You run a business. Certainly a position that involves a great deal of responsibility...for large amounts of money....for the lives and feelings of your employees...and your ultimate responsibility as head of a business is to make sure that everything runs in a smooth and orderly fashion. You're forced to be a person who understands the value of a pragmatic outlook on life....
MADDIE
...reacts....a little too true for comfort....
ANOTHER ANGLE
....as Kendall continues....
KENDALL: I have to do that for my daughter, Miss Hayes. Margaret is spontaneous, she's ruled by her emotions. She pays little or no attention to life's warning signs, and as such has almost no sense of the practical effects of her decisions. (and then) The plain truth is, I don't believe she'll be dissuaded by the facts. By coming here, I'm only trying to save her from herself.
MADDIE (takes that all in; then): Mr Kendall....I have to tell you...she seems to love him very much......
KENDALL: It isn't her love that I doubt. (and then) I suppose if I were a young woman...(this hurts)...a rather plain young woman...who'd never been sought afer....I might love him too. He's handsome...he's charming...he makes her happy....
MADDIE (almost surprising herself) : That's important...
KENDALL: Life isn't often about happiness, Miss Hayes. It's about realities. Control the realities, then....maybe...you can try for the rest. And the reality here is that Robert Murphy wants one thing and one thing only. MY MONEY!
....Maddie thinks about what he's said for a moment...and then....
MADDIE: Mr Kendall, are you and your daughter really all that different? What she has is a feeling....an instinct...about this man. Isn't that really all you have too? An instinct?
KENDALL (looks at her for a moment; then): Perhaps, Miss Hayes. But my instincts have netted me over seventy five million dollars. My daughter's have led only to a lonely life.
...Maddie lets that sink in.....and then....
MADDIE: I'm sorry, Mr. Kendall. I have an obligation to our client.
KENDALL (angry) : I see. (and then; gathering himself) Then our business is finished.
...he goes to the door....but....
MADDIE (a bit hesitant) : Mr. Kendall.... (he stops) I hope you love your daughter enough to realize...the most important thing is the way she feels about him.
KENDALL: I do love my daughter, Miss Hayes. Enough to do anything in my power to stop her from throwing her life away.
...and he EXITS.....SLAMMING the door behind him...and....
MADDIE
...just stands there....thinking about what he's said.....and what she's feeling....

During David's conversation at the bar with Robert Murphy, this small section of dialogue is omitted:
MURPHY: I don;t want her to ever think that me and her are some kinda accident that never shoulda happened. (and then; a shrug) Maybe it sounds stupid...but I believe you make your own destiny. I believe you....me....EVERYONE has a spiritual mate. (and then) And I think...after a lotta wrong turns..I finally found mine.
(and then; looking off in self absorption)
MURPHY: And I'm not going to let anything stand between us.
...and then...after a long moment....Murphy snaps out of his reverie and looks at David.
MURPHY: How about you?....Anyone special?
DAVID: Yeah...but it's not what you think.....

Small cute addition to the first scene in the car:
MADDIE: I don't think you're pulling something. I don't think you're pulling anything.
DAVID: not that I'd mind pulling something...or better still....having something pulled.

Set description of David's bedroom, post act, pre new pact:
TIGHT ON DAVID AND MADDIE
....about twenty minutes later....ENTANGLED under a sheet and LYING on what must be DAVID'S BED...looking quite spent....both of them lying on their backs...staring at the ceiling...lit only by whatever moonlight is tumbling through the blinds...and even in this dim light it is hard to miss David's satisfied, blissful grin...and Maddie's troubled frown of discomfort....

Remembering things as I go through the script again......
This has not changed...but to me sums up Maddie' whole demeanor through the episode.....it's almost like her anthem.
"This is not how I live my life, David. I just don't give myself to people. I have to think about it. Consider it. Contemplate it. And then...when I do...if I do.....(thinking)...well, it's not like this...all wild and frenzied.........."
She's embarrassed, she's unsettled.....and she's scared!

Ok.......my disclaimer....I HATE THIS SCENE....and I am so glad the censors got hold of it.
But in the interest of true disclosure, I present it for your review ;-)
It occurs as D&M are entering the police station after the phone call in David's apartment:
FADE IN:
ON A SET OF DOUBLE DOORS
....with frosted glass as they're PUSHED OPEN from the other side and DAVID strides through....followed by MADDIE.....
MADDIE (privately) : Gosh, I wish we'd had time to take a shower.
DAVID: Huh?
MADDIE (hushed) : It's embarrassing. Can't you smell that smell?
DAVID: "That smell"? What smell?
MADDIE You know what smell. That smell you smell after...you do what we just did.
DAVID: Oh...that smell? I've never smelled that smell. Or maybe it's just that I smell that smell all the time.
MADDIE (disgusted): I'm sure that's it......
