Took me quite a bit of time... like my predecessors, I didn't want to tell only stuff I'd already revealed before... here's what I got:
30 Things about me and Moonlighting15 about me:1. I'm a German-Italian halfbreed and married to a full Italian. I wish my Italian was better, but my dad refused to speak Italian at home - he always said he wanted to improve his German; well, he managed (see below point 4), but my English is better than my Italian...
2. I have started writing when I was in fifth grade... have always been writing throughout school, then during university I stopped – for twenty years.
3. Apart from my Italian family, I have family in Austria and the Czech Republic (cousins from my mom's side).
4. My dad left school after the fifth grade because he had to work in the family's business, a bakery. Yes, after-war times in rural Northern Italy were like that. He's reading political magazines nowadays – in German. Needless to say how proud I am, and I'm not ashamed to tell everybody: yes, I'm coming from a blue collar family.
5. My dad came to Germany to work as a waiter in a hotel; my mom had decided to work for one season there as a receptionist – about 300 km from where she lived, as an adventure. How were the odds they would meet? Can you say
kismet?
6. Speaking of which – I'm deeply rooted here in Nürnberg, where I was born and raised and I can't imagine what it means to leave your home and family to live in a foreign country like my dad, my uncle and my hub – but I'm glad they did.
7. My favorite soaps in the 80's were
Dallas,
Dynasty and
Falcon Crest – I was addicted!
8. I ran the kitchen of my father's restaurant alone with him for an entire month shortly before my final university exam – got a few burns from that pizza oven!
9. I have been living with cats since I was three and can't imagine not having one – my twitter friends know that my current badass green-eyed cat is Diego, named after the saber-tooth tiger in
Ice Age. My daughter calls him her cat brother, and they are bosom buddies. He drives me crazy, and I really hate him.
10. I've been together with my husband for 18 years now, married for 12. He's by golly not the man I was
supposed to be with. He still drives me crazy, and I really hate him. ;D
11. I have been to the States once, when I graduated from High school. I stayed in Trenton at my best friend's cousin's home. They took us to see Washington, Princeton and New York. I'm still in touch with that lovely family, and I still like my hotdogs best
Jersey style – with mustard and sauerkraut.
12. In Europe, I have been to London, Vienna, Prague, France, Spain and three of the Canary Islands (well, they belong to Spain) and Italy of course – but the best holidays ever I spent with my mom: two weeks in Wales in 1993. I've always wanted to return. Maybe, one day.
13. I “talk” a lot with my hands; obviously, that's the Italian side in me.
14. When I talk to my hub, we use a funny mixture of German and Italian, sometimes switching from one language to the other in the middle of a phrase – often to the amusement of people watching/overhearing us.
15. I'm riding a lot on tram, subway and bus and always carry a book with me in my handbag (currently
Dead As A Doornail by Charlaine Harris) and a notebook where I scribble down my ideas for writing.
15 about Moonlighting:1. I saw
Moonlighting when it aired for the first time in Germany, that was from 1990 on,
The Pilot first, then seasons 1 to 4 in order, then forgot about it until I rediscovered it 20 years later – via youtube. Thanks, internet.
2. There were a few things I still remembered after 20 years, without ever having rewatched. Those were the “elephant walk” from
My Fair David (even my mom remembers that one, and I remember we laughed tears together!); Cybill's singing and the first time they kissed in
Dream Sequence; the song
Papa was a Rolling Stone when David was following Alex in
Every Daughter's Father...; the claymation in
Come Back Little Shiksa; oh yes, and – the
Big bang, of course.
3. I have never watched season 5, and despite everything anybody could tell me, I've no intention to do so – ever. I've seen every available youtube clip and read the episode discussions here on board and have decided that I don't want to see it. Oddly enough, not because of Annie, but because of what had become of Maddie and David: strangers.
4. I despise Sam with all my heart but I don't have issues with Mark Harmon – which would be really childish and stupid; he's just an actor, and he is very attractive. I loved him in
Flamingo Road, if anybody of you remembers that one.
5. Before
Moonlighting, I had never heard of Cybill Shepherd – probably I was too young.
6. My 5-year-old daughter loves
Moonlighting and Bruce Willis to whom she referred only as the Hit-the-road-Jack-guy for a long time – thanks to Ray Charles and
Trip to the Moon. No, I haven't shown her that episode yet, I just showed her the scene where Ray Charles performs in David's living room, because she loved the song – after that, of course, she loved it even more.
7. She has seen a lot of different episodes and has already her favorite episodes she wants to watch again and again, those are
Atomic Shakespeare,
Big Man On Mulberry Street,
'Twas The Episode Before Christmas and
It's A Wonderful Job – in that order. She gets very mad every time she sees Cheryl Tiegs with David, and she was not amused to see Maddie's dance witch Richie in
Brother, Can You Spare A Blonde.8. She had a harmonica on her wish list for last Christmas – thanks to Bruce's performance in
Atomic Shakespeare. Oh, she got one by the way.
9. Thanks to
Moonlighting and the internet – again – I can say I found my two best friends who are not living on the same continent like me.
I don't think that's weird or kind of “not real” like some may think – they are an important part of my daily life.
10.
Moonlighting inspired me to pick up writing again.
11. Unlike most of you, I don't (and didn't) have a
Moonlighting scrapbook – I was already in my twenties when it got into its “hot” phase here in Germany and I guess I was too old for scrapbooks. But in my teens I had a lot of them of my then favorite shows and movies.
12. When
The Pilot aired here in Germany, Bruce Willis was already a big movie star; I had only seen him in
Die Hard and highly doubted he'd be able to do comedy and surely didn't believe he could move me to tears just with his gaze and his silence – boy, was I proven wrong! I still think he's one of the most underestimated actors ever.
13. My re-discovery of
Moonlighting inspired me to a few purchases over the last year in addition to the season 1+2, 3 and 4 box sets: I bought (mostly via ebay – thanks internet) Cybill's book, Bruce's CDs and a vast collection of his movies.
14. When I watched season 4 for the first time back in 1991, I was getting more and more impatient every week because I just wanted Maddie and David back together. Rewatching it these days, I found I have come to really appreciate season 4 (despite all its flaws) – I even enjoy many of the episodes, mostly of course due to Bruce's stellar performances here, I think they're breathtaking.
15. Again unlike mot of you, I started to watch
Moonlighting after I had seen
Dirty Dancing. So,
Be My Baby to me had always been the soundtrack of that lovely movie. After
The Big Bang, of course, that changed for ever.
