From "My Fair David" when calling Mrs Greydon to tell her Clarke is ALIVE!
"And what if I don't feel like dialling 1 first!" down the phone, and then as she yells "Clarke is alive!" have you noticed the reaction of the lady walking by in the street? Love that scene so much, very very funny!!

There is a phrase that Maddie uses over and over again which I find so amusing. To me, it represents the continual struggle for men and women to communicate. So many times, someone of the opposite sex will say something and I know I spend so much time trying to analyze the statement to determine what that person is really saying. Of course, this is so in Maddie's character anyway since she spends so much time contemplating. The phrase is "AND WHAT DOES THAT MEAN??" Her delivery with the accent on "that" makes me smile. Of course, David says it once in a while, but it's not the same thing.

I have just finished re-watching The Man Who Cried Wife. There is a scene where M & D are driving to Bower's house - a cabin in the woods. David is sure that is where they will find the missing woman as all your female protagonists are always found in a cabin in the woods. He cites Red Riding Hood and Gretel. Maddie turns to him and says ever so sweetly, "You really did read during your vacation, didn't you?" Always makes me laugh.

Love the entire speech Maddie makes to Agnes about Walter and David, about Walter being the "white stuff you put in the coffee" that "you can depend on it hot or cold" but "that doesn't mean you stop loving real milk either!" Also love what came before that, that David was "like a first kiss all the time," and that was exciting but "also scary, always being nervous, always being unsure."

I've started to watch my new dvds and while David is a treasure chest of quotable quotes, Maddie's got lines that shine too. I'm sure this one's been mentioned but one of her funniest to me was in "Knowing Her" when I think David says,
"You coulda fooled me."
And she says with cutting relish,
A gnat with a lobotomy could fool you!
LOL - I love that scene!

From "Next murder...":
M: "Only you make me stiff and tense!" D: "That's because I'm the only person in your life." M: "That's not true! I have plenty of people in my life, pa-lenty!!"
I'll be back for more, love this thread...! ;D

Sandra - don't you just love the banter? One of my favorite Maddie lines is from Big Man on Mulberry Street - "What's the matter? Wit well run dry?" as she walks away with that little smirk....great!

From Eek a Spouse!:
Maddie: You know, I've spent the last few days wondering how you feel... constantly asking you how you feel, then this morning, it dawned on me: If only I would stop asking you, then you could stop denying, and maybe we could stop fighting. Because I know how you feel, David. I know. David, what you and I have is like nothing I've ever heard of. Maybe I'm afraid of it. Maybe I'm not strong enough. But if the day they close the book on us, it says we never got married or we never had a child, well that's okay. Because what we have... what we are... what we're going to be goes beyond licenses and vows. It's in our hearts and it's in our minds. Only you know, and only I know.
There's something very special in this, and I know that it comes at a maddening time in their relationship, but here is Maddie... Maddie, of all people, riding in to give us this small yet unmistakable ray of hope. She's finally opening up in a real way, and telling us that she and David are far from over. That in fact, we, the audience will never know how far from over they are because it runs so deep that only they know. I love this show of intimacy, real intimacy, that locks even us out of its understanding. It's something to look to even at the bitter end, because despite all the crap, what they are going to be is still very much out there, even though we may never know what that is. They know, and that is what matters.

I totally agree, lin - the banter's the salt AND the pepper in the ML soup!
At the moment I'm going through season 2, and tonite it will be "Knowing her". I'll try to come up with my fave lines afetr every ep. Can't wait till tonite!!! (here in Germany it's only 3 pm, so I'll have to wait some more hours before I can snuggle up on my couch and turn the tv on... being on this forum is kinda foreplay... ;D )

It's just something that resonates with me about this show, even with all the later flaws and failings. Maddie gave voice to the ineffable in this quiet scene in the middle of a bunch of nonsense, and I can't help but marvel at it. And yes, it would absolutely be sooooo good to know, but these words make not knowing okay, too. It's a David and Maddie thing.

From "Somewhere under the rainbow":
D: "He conked me in the head!" M: "My kinda guy!"
From "Atlas belched":
"Lady gets in trouble, it's nice to know she has somebody to call!" (soooo sweet!!)
