7. Discuss the significance of the trunk scene (sigh). Is it a turning point in their relationship? Does it tell David what he wants to know? Most definitely, first of all, Maddie is the first to say "I hate you, David Addison", which he correctly interprets to be a declaration of love, so he feels safe to return it. He's not giving an inch until she does (and vice versa...). And for her to just crumble into his arms like that is such a huge deal for Maddie to do, it tells him enough to give him that smug confidence we see in IACM. Spot on Man!! ;D I totally agree with this too! He really is so sure of himsef and smug in IACM isnt he? LOL Ahh to be discussed next!

2. In both Blonde on Blonde and Sam and Dave, David plans to tell Maddie about his feelings for her, but is thwarted by Sam. In this episode, David finally has the opportunity to talk to Maddie - in the office, in the car and in his apartment - yet he doesn't. Why not? David has now gated his heart once again, he is afraid of rejection. After 3 years of "is you is or is you aint", the test of losing Maddie forever has forced the hands of David and Maddie's kismet relationship; and David is scared. Although I believe that David knows Maddie must love him, yet the problem with our beloved couple has never been about loving each other; its about how much. Each fear that love is not enough to overcome their differences, not so much for David until Sham comes into the picture, both barrels ready to fire. IMHO, David is then faced with the decision of loving her so completely that he sets Maddie free to be her idea of happy; no matter how much it hurts. WOW Since i love this alot! Oh and welcome back! Hope your mom is doing well!

6. Why do you think Sam chooses this particular moment to propose? Do you think it was planned or was it a spur of the moment question?Since, I'm with you all the way on this one...No question, Sammy had it planned, for at least as long as he was working on the lamb. He definitely had some agenda with Maddie from the start; whether he showed up in LA with the express purpose of making Maddie Mrs. NASA is debatable. In any case, enter David...and, as gray said, the ante goes up. WAY up. As far as the moment goes, Sammy knows that Maddie has just spent most of the evening with David. No better time to try and wipe good ol' Addison from her mind. Not to mention, he probably figures there's nothin' like a proposal as a prelude for some fine boot knocking... LOL @ Boot Knockin! HAHAHA Though i believe Sam wouldnt call it that HAHAHA But i agree Sam didnt come to LA to propose to Maddie, yeah he showed up to rekindle things i believe with hopes of moving to the next step of making her his trophy wife i think. But like said here enter DAVID and well while he may think David isnt the type of guy for Maddie but he isnt so sure that Maddie doesnt have any feelings for David so i dont think he would have moved so fast if he thought Maddie was not feeling things for David, but it is so obvious so Sam knows David is his obstacle to Maddie and hes gotta move quickly

6. Why do you think Sam chooses this particular moment to propose? Do you think it was planned or was it a spur of the moment question? Been thinking about this one...this is probably something that should be discussed with a great group of friends in a bar with a cocktail in hand... I agree with those that said he came to town to reunite with Maddie and maybe not initially thinking of proposing. However, I do think he was thinking marriage eventually so he could sport a trophy wife at NASA. But when he saw his competition for Maddie's affections he proposed. He did this thinking it would be the final nail in the coffin for whatever HADN'T happen yet between Maddie and David. He knew there was something between them and since MAddie wasn't offering any information he was afraid to ask. It was none of his damn business anyway, right?! Feel the same way, bees. I think that Sam had quite a few hours to sit around by the fire and ponder the situation. As time went by and Maddie didn't come home, he probably was getting pretty nervous. He felt that he had to go for the whole ball of wax before David made headway with Maddie and her confusion cleared up.

Maybe I can understand the office...even the car...but when Blondie comes to his hooch dressed in only her finest snooze garments to get the real scoop...well, dude, that was the time to let it out. Yeah i wonder what would have happened if David let it all out then. You are right Maddie comes dressed for bed LOL and they kiss and well maybe she and David could have moved things into the bedroom & then run all over town and then she go home to Sam even more confused cause she slept with them both then and now she could have decided. AHHH sounds like a what might have been Fan fic eh ? LOL But then we wouldnt of had the knock down drag out in IACM SIGH! LOL

I too think that David feared rejection, especially after he heard the spaceman's resume at dinner the night before. He didn't want to put himself in a vulnerable position, so he acted as if he were totally oblivious to the drama that was unfolding.

7. Discuss the significance of the trunk scene (sigh). Is it a turning point in their relationship? Does it tell David what he wants to know?I always thought this scene was masterful. It appeared more stage like, more Broadway, than tinseltown. Just the two protagonists, minimal props and limited lighting. You were completely focused on those two people, and their interaction. When I originally saw this scene, I did indeed see it as a watershed moment. Maddie comes to David..her first visit to that wonderful place. He goes out of his way to be a great host by offering food and a comfy place to sit and talk. She drops all of her veneer and lays it out in the open, and the "I Hate You" banter fits so perfect for these two kindred souls. Yes, this was A turning point, but not the last one as we all know. If only the writers would have kept on THIS fork in the road instead of taking some crazy National Lampoon Vacation route I think we would have all been better off. Wonderfully put GRAY! I love the "kindred souls"! They sure were/are! SIGH!

jen, I HATE that scene! It boils me when Maddie says, "Now that's the kind of talk that I like" or something like that. GGRRRRR. By the way, I find it curious that Sam has his hands in his pockets when he's kissing her. Does that seem strange or is it just me? Not just you, lin...I think it's strange, too. Not to read too much into it (HA!), but it seems to me he would put his arms around her, the same way he puts a hand on her cheek when he sees her hesitation after the proposal...he's trying to "catch" her, hold her in one place long enough to convince her that they should be together. jpen This got me to thinking...oh no!! David puts his hands in his pockets when he is really thinking about something serious, difficult, sad, uncomfortable about a situation, when he looks at Maddie the way he looks at her, etc.. The garage kiss, the kisses in his dreams, his arms were around her. Sam comes into a "place of business", puts his hands in his pockets as if he has every right to be there and behave unbusiness- like in Maddie's office. Very assuming on his part, but why did Maddie let him break her office decorum??!! Not that I'm opposed to a little kissey in the office, mind you!! Two men in Maddie's life that share the same mannerism, but it means two different things... Question:
In what other way is Sam and David the same? Yeah...I know, I'm quoting myself.... But, the other way Sam And David are alike is neither one of them say the three little words Maddie needs to hear... Marry me...wife and wife...sheesh... I'll settle for "I've always hated you" ...
For the type of guy Sam is he really didnt give a romantic proposal to Maddie if he thought he was the better man for her. David you know would be all out romantic to propose to Maddie SIGH Darn we didnt get that with them . But The I HATE YOUS are definitely meant to be I love you! They both understood what that meant.

1. In the opening scene, Sam asks Maddie if she is okay. Why? Simply put, Sam sees the distant look on Maddie's face and attempts to bring her mind back to bed. 2. In both Blonde on Blonde and Sam and Dave, David plans to tell Maddie about his feelings for her, but is thwarted by Sam. In this episode, David finally has the opportunity to talk to Maddie - in the office, in the car and in his apartment - yet he doesn't. Why not?? Part of me was puzzled by this. The other part thinks that in David's mind, the moment has passed. Perhaps he's thinking that the timing is off and if his two attempts have been thwarted, a verbal declaration of his feelings was not meant to be. Also, he most likely believes that his actions have screamed louder than words ever could and if Maddie hasn't realized it by now, she ain't gonna. Lastly, David retreats and shuts down when challenged to speak up, e.g., Maddie's barrage of questions at his front door. It has to be on his terms.

3. In Sam and Dave, Maddie puts her personal life before her professional responsibility by choosing dinner with Sam over the McLafferty case. The next day, she does the exact opposite. What has changed? Good question...especially since I had planned to post it myself . What's changed is that Maddie has attended to some personal needs with Sam and now it's time to refocus her attention on detective work, i.e., detecting what exactly is up with that business partner of hers. Since Sam didn't, as gray said, "butter her biscuit" she feels no need to continue her "irresponsible" behavior with Sam. Maddie has an agency to run and that has been top priority for 2 1/2 years. 5. Elaine Johnson comments that women make love with their hearts. David glances at Maddie. What is he thinking? David's thinking Maddie must've done the deed with Sam. He's wondering if she made love to him with her whole heart.
