That is why it upsets me even more that the final scene was supposed to have D & M reminiscing and admitting their true feelings for one another but BW wouldn’t do it.
WTH?! 🥵🥵🥵
Wasn’t it bad enough we were backstabbed in S4 & 5 after sticking with show through thick and thin for years? Why not at least give us a semi-happy,ending?
I think it was totally selfish on his part to not act out scene he was given. After all, Moonlighting made him a star. What a horrible way to repay fans.

There were many questions in Scott Ryan’s book not asked. I can think of many but will start with:
Why were pivotal scenes like D asking M to marry him off screen?
Why didn’t we ever get to hear D say “I love you” to M?
Why did writers choose to show David so happy with Annie when Maddie shown to be conflicted about her feelings with Sam ?
What happened between ATFWMW and WGC that caused M & D to throw in the towel?

Quest, those are great questions! I wish the fans could have provided questions for the book. Although who knows if any of them would have been answered.
I just rewatched Knowing Her. As I was watching it I realized I really don't like that episode much at all. Basically David was willing to leave Maddie and go away with Jillian even though she had left him in the past without any warning or explanation. He forgave her really quickly and seemed ready to get back together with her. I know he and Maddie weren't together then, but he seemed to really care for Maddie at that point, maybe even loved her. If Jillian hadn't set him up and used him to get away with murder, would he have just been back with her forever like Maddie didn't matter to him at all? And that kiss that they shared, I don't think he and Maddie ever had a kiss like that. Moonlighting was supposed to be about their relationship more than anything and yet the viewers didn't get anything to really be happy about. I guess it was about their dysfunctional and doomed relationship, even though they supposedly loved each other.

That is all true, and it does suck how quickly he was willing to leave M for J. However, they do make a point many times in the episode to point out how stupid David is being and what an "idiot" he is, Maddie tells him and he says it himself. So, basically he's just getting wrapped up in old drama, having sympathy for his ex as she's going through a hard time...and definitely enjoying how jealous it's making M...but, I think, at the end of the day, even if Jillian wasn't a killer, he's be back PDQ. Something else would have happened to remind him what Jillian was really like, she was still someone who left him without an explanation (you know how we're always trying to right the wrongs from the past, especially with those who broke our hearts.) My guess is he wouldn't be gone long. And, yeah, it was too early in the series for Maddie to lay claim on him. The good thing about the episode is we get to see that Maddie really does care and is jealous that this other woman has come along...progress in the life of the series.
also, I'd say the kiss on the trunk was similar to J and David's kiss? Plus M&D had way hotter kisses than that...

Thanks for making me feel better about that episode! I really would like to think he wouldn't have stayed with Jillian. M&D didn't have enough real kisses for me. A lot of fantasy ones, but not enough real ones.

What you said reminded me David was left twice by other women he let in. One he married and other lived with. Both hurt him. Them Maddie does even worse. Poor David. 😱😮💨😮💨😮💨

Yes, he was left by 2 women before Maddie and then her. He also lost 2 kids. Although I guess he didn't know the second one was his, but he was planning to help take care of him. It's pretty sad. Guess maybe that's why he acted so weird at the end of the show.

Oh god, yeah...poor David, unlucky in love for such a hot man!
Yeah, never enough kisses for M&D, let's see, real kisses - The Garage, The Trunk, The Big Bang, THH, Flesh, TMW
Hottest kiss of all the kisses? I think Maddie kissing David in Big Man, or Maddie kissing him in the window in DREAM...
Think how M grabbed the back of his hair and tugged on it was a Maddie thing or a Cybill thing? lol

I never realized how attractive BW was. Perhaps I was too young at the time, but I'm not now!! lol Very handsome face and put together quite nicely. That was surprising back in 80s as men didn't work out like they do today. He must have very good genes.
Getting back to the show, is it sad and wonderful at the same time that the Moonlighting fanfiction is often much better than what we got in S4 & S5.
I still don’t understand how they could have broadcast S5 out of sequence. The ending was one of worst I’ve ever seen, and what led up to it made no sense as we were left with Maddie and David reconciling before the loss of the baby. There was no logical explanation given as to why they grew apart and ended up hostile to one another. Certainly, David sleeping with Maddie’s married cousin came from out of nowhere and didn’t support his character as it was presented to us in the prior seasons.
If only something could be done about this. I watch Moonlighting two or three times (at least) a week and would have loved to see new episodes. By now, I know the dialogue without having the sound up!! lol
Nothing on tv right now compares to this show, no matter how many channels I run through.
It was epic.

quest, I definitely realized how attractive Bruce was and I was only 12. He's the main reason I watched the show back then. I even sent him a fan letter and got a picture of him! My family and friends thought I was crazy having a crush on a man that much older than me. And now he's married to someone younger than me. I find that so funny.
I don't know if Season 5 was aired out of order, but I think they did have episodes ready ahead of time so I guess some of them might have been out of order. Maybe they didn't care anymore. That's why I wished they had more information about season 5 in the book. I still haven't gotten to watching season 5 in shipper's order. I'm hoping it will be better that way, but I just can't bring myself to rewatch the Annie storyline yet.
When you watch Moonlighting now do you watch it in order or just pick episodes that you like?

I also wondered with the first kiss in that episode when Maddie almost whimpers just before he kisses her, was that in the script or was that Cybill? I'll have to go back and watch all the kisses again and see which I think is the hottest.

Yes, had a massive crush on BW when I was 14, 15, 16...up until now really, although sadly I don't find him sexy anymore...80s BW was the hottest thing in the world, yes, even though he was much older than me. I still look at him in those episodes and during that time and am in awe of how good looking he was, his face, his build, personality. Everything. Don't see men that look like that these days. When I watch ML, most of the time I pick and choose the episodes that I like. But, sometimes I'll do a re-watch and watch them in order. If you take the emotion out of it (hard to do) S5 episodes, even the Annie episodes aren't that bad...it's really not M&D to me so, I just pretend it's bonus ML episodes with these kinda familiar people (but the real storyline ended after Flesh) haha. crazy!

I don't think it was Cybill, because I don't think this is the first time she and BW had kissed / don't think he'd have that affect on her in that moment.

I hope I did this right....the quoting, I mean!! I am technically challenged sometimes. lol I usually watch episodes I like best but I sometimes watch in order, as long as it is S1 thru 3. After that, I stay clear of the offensive episodes like WGC. I watched that once and once was more than enough. Also, it does help to watch is shipper's order but you must watch some episodes with the understanding they are Maddie's nightmares. That is not something they tell you in the episode. You must incorporate that yourself. I thought of something that made absolutely no sense last night regarding the "ATTTM" (Honeymooner) episode and will post next.

In "ATTTM" Honeymooner episode, Maddie is not happy because all she and David do is sleep together. She goes on and on and on (ugh) about their never doing anything but ravaging one another (paraphrasing) and David winds up taking her to a laundromat because he can't think of anything better to do. WTH? They have went on dates for the last three years (although as friends)...lunch, dinner, breakfast, the symphony (though ticket mix-up created a disaster) and who knows what else. David has dated before. Why would he suddenly have no idea where to take Maddie on a date? This was sloppy writing to get Maddie on that plane to Chicago as the relationship was "going nowhere".
David was trying so hard to please her and when he announced to the office he was 'head over heels in love" and asked her if she would go on a date with him, I thought they might have a shot. Yet, the rug was once more pulled out from under them.
The writer(s) didn't get that we didn't need them in crisis every moment. The audience actually would have loved to see them happy for at least a short period of time.
It still makes me angry that we didn't get that.
There was no reason their relationship could not have worked. I even think the baby being born would have been a perfect ending (as CS said in the book). Instead we got am ambiguous scene with BW having a scowl on his face and the agency torn apart.
One more thing...According to book, Alyce Beasley hasn't been in a room with CS or BW in 30 years because she blames them for Moonlighting's demise and she loved working on show. I found that very interesting.
