I have been so delinquent answering these questions....and I am going to again push it off. I have answered these several times before on the site, so forgive me......here are the some of my feelings about Atlas (ps...isn't it perfect? Atlas Shrugged is one of my all time favorite novels as well!!) Like: Who belched?? I think that Maddie is the "Atlas" in Atlas Belched......and that her decision was almost like a belch, or a little hiccup. She decided to divest herself of the agency and all the people she felt she was supporting, but when she tried to do so, she realized that those very people were the ones supporting her. It is a complex and very interesting novel......and I think Atlas Belched does the title proud. In my opinion, this is the most underrated Moonlighting episode, with lots more depth than it receives credit for.....and with some of the best chemistry scenes between the characters. And WHAT is going on with David and Maddie's relationship?: Here's my take...halfway down the page! davidandmaddie.com/maddie.htm

What Diane says about Maddie crossing the threshold and caring about or showing that she cares about David's well-being is such a huge thing in what we always talk about....character development. I started to say that it is the best page on the site, but decided that there is so much wonderful stuff to read that I could not classify it as the best....pretty darn near close!! As far as the novel "Atlas Shrugged", I just started reading it last week. Only about 200 pages in.....with about 1,000 more to go, LOL!!...but, already I can see why they used "Atlas Belched" as a play on the novel. Pretty cool!!

All the questions have been answered well, so I'd just like to give a summary of my opinion on this ep: I absolutely love it!!!
Very, very sweet: David let go if a unique chance to make a big deal and be his own boss just to get back to the situation before, completely un-selfish!
And so was Maddie: she wouldn't accept the offer to take Blue Moon back unless David didn't tell her it was alright for him - she was ready to put her wishes in 2nd place for the sake of letting him have his great chance.
The stair scene - no words for it! showing honest, sweet and deep feelings. I loved the smiles too and her plead "Hire me!"
Last but not least I'd like to add a few quotes I like:
D: "Don't 'what-what' me!"
D: "Say 'take me, hold me, use me, abuse me'!" (Ladies, we would have said it, wouldn't we?? ;D )
D: "Any second thoughts about our new position - me on top - feel as good to you as it does to me?"
D: "You should try my sausage and eggs some time, serve it right on the mattress" I BEG YOUR PARDON?!? How did THAT make it past the censors?? (Not that I mind...)
But the best line belongs to Maddie this time: "Lady gets in trouble it's nice to know she has somebody to call!" (but priceless the reaction on his face, just like when she asked him to hire her - pure joy!)

Sandra, I'd like to add one to your list, if I may:
David: "Just business, huh? Is that what the past 10 months have been about? Just business?" This captures so much about where both their heads and hearts are in the relationship. He's foolishly thinking that they've been on the same page, and Maddie's actions prove they're not even on the same chapter; by the end of the episode, she has reached his point in the book.

But I think that Maddie only likes to think that the past 10 months have been just business to her; there was more to her too in fact. I think we can see that on her face when David leaves her house after she's told him she'd sold the agency. Of course, she's not ready to admit that yet.

I agree ladies - and Maddie is just not used to working with people who genuinely care about her (especially as much as David). Of cousre she knew what the last 10 months meant but she's a little scared of it too and it's easier to pretend it's all just business. Trouble is Maddie, you're see-through :-)

This is another great episode isn't it? All that talk of 'Atlas shrugged' makes me want to read it now!
I agree Sandra, it's so full of genuine affection and emotions - it's a treat for all Maddie and David fans. I remember smiling when she's setting up that picnic breakfast, I was as in the dark as David and moreover, I felt as disappointed as David when she revealed the reason for the celebration: 'yey' (sarcastically). His face when he spots her setting it up is priceless - he's so touched and thinks it's a moment of her showing him some affection - so double disappointment when we find she's sold the agency. Typical Maddie - she knows she's done something stupid and tries to compensate with something that just won't cut it.
Agnes is definitely the 'piggy in the middle' with this little dispute: 'Morning Mr Addison, Bye Mr Addison'...'Morning Ms Hayes, bye Ms Hayes' - very cute.
It's David's turn to slam doors like the wind in this ep and he slammed good, don't you think? I guess he learned from the pro. GREAT DOOR SLAMMING!
Another lovely Agnes remark when the flowers arrive for Maddie:'They're beautiful...they smell so floral!'- love her.
To the dump, to the dump, to the dump,dump,dump...and David Addison has had his feelings well and truly dumped (get used to it buddy - she's going to do this a few times :-)). Poor old disposable Dave- he really feels like he doesn't matter to her, he's just a little piece of that trash in that great big litter site. Don't worry Dave...you just drink the chocolate milk, play with those office toys and keep going...she'll come back, she always does.
David's solo chase is awesome - classic bit of kooky comedy to even this episode out! Gotta have our spoonful of silliness in with all these emotions and feelings- helps the medicine go down. I'm very jealous of the extra he kisses mid-scene (I'd have been inclined to mess that scene up a few times in order to get some more takes!)
Of course, and then we're back to 'them' - when he's waiting on the steps 'one more step and I'm a Soprano' - love her regrets face and there's some lovely chemistry here. Another op where there coulda, woulda, shoulda been a kissette. :-) We are rewarded with a lovely smile exchange for our troubles though - some compensation :-)
Sigh...really enjoying this re-watching. Roll on the next episode...

You would what, sandra? ;D Yes, and so?!? Just being honest, Lady! No denial, no avoidance! ;D Anybody here who would not like what I suggested?? Liars! Of course except of you, Jen, thanks for your support! (Just for the record: I'm happily married, too!)
